Four years ago, researchers at Swinburne University conducted a study investigating the effects of Longvida® curcumin on cognition and mood in a healthy older population (aged 60-80). After 4 weeks of administration, they found that daily Longvida® (400 mg) supplementation led to significant improvements in cognitive function in as little as one hour. This 2015 "NutraIngredients Research of the Year" winner included measures for memory, attention, fatigue, stress, and mood and prompted researchers to evaluate cognitive impact after long term supplementation with a second study. The follow-up study aimed to determine whether similar effects were evident following 12 weeks of taking Longvida.

We are excited to share that the much-awaited results are in; according to Scholey et al., this follow-up study “confirms that Longvida® improves aspects of mood and working memory in a healthy older cohort”. Longvida® has been self-affirmed GRAS since 2012 and has been extensively investigated for its efficacy and safety in multiple human clinical trials, animal studies, and in in vitro experimental studies.

Gota et al (2010) investigated the pharmacokinetics of Longvida® compared to 95% standard curcuminoids in a crossover, double-blind, comparative pharmacokinetic analysis in healthy adult human subjects. In these healthy subjects, the mean peak concentration of curcumin (Cmax) achieved from dosing 650mg of Longvida® SLCP was 22.43 ng/mL, whereas plasma curcumin from dosing an equal quantity of unformulated 95% curcuminoids extract was not detected (<1 ng/ml). In the same study, administration of Longvida® in oral dosages of 2000mg, 3000mg, and 4000mg (containing 400-600mg of curcumin, respectively), with 8oz of water to osteosarcoma patients showed high plasma concentrations and dose-related AUCs. Overall, good tolerability was noted in both healthy and osteosarcoma groups.

“Evaluation of the efficacy and safety of Capsule Longvida® Optimized Curcumin (solid lipid curcumin particles) in knee osteoarthritis: a pilot clinical study” is the title of the latest publication about Longvida® in the Journal of Inflammation Research.

The independent double-blind, placebo-controlled, human clinical trial demonstrated that oral administration of Longvida® (400mg twice a day) was found to be effective and safe in alleviating symptoms in patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis when administered for 90 days. This improvement was comparable to sub-therapeutic doses of ibuprofen. Significant improvements in VAS and WOMAC scores compared to baseline were observed. Longvida® was found to be “faster acting” in providing “pain relief” compared to ibuprofen in the first 30 days. No serious adverse events were reported, therefore this study further confirms the safety of Longvida®.
