Ashwagandha, or Withania somnifera (WS), holds a special place in several traditional Ayruvedic preparations similar to ginseng in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Traditionally, ashwagandha was categorized as a Rasayana, or rejuvenator, for its wide ranging health benefits; said to “promote a youthful state of physical and mental health and expand happiness”*. The properties ascribed to Rasayanas in Ayurveda are remarkably similar to the definition of adaptogens today; a natural substance considered to help the body adapt to stress.

In an effort to promote sustainable practices and initiatives, Verdure Sciences recently collaborated with their long-term supplier in India to plant 2,000 Boswellia serrata saplings in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh to protect these sacred trees and support the families who depend on them to earn a living for generations to come.
Boswellia serrata, a tree native to India, has been used for centuries for its healing properties by the people of Madhya Pradesh and in Ayurveda. A new independent review highlights the importance of sulphur in several body functions including support of connective tissue, skin health, detoxification, immunity, and metabolism. OptiMSM®, a scientifically proven, branded form of MSM, may have a role in providing the body an easily accessible pool of sulphur.

The results of a recent two-period crossover study performed at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine and presented at the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), suggests that Longvida® may help to reduce pain and alleviate lameness in horses with osteoarthritis (OA).
The study sought to evaluate the effects of an oral herbal supplement containing Longvida® Optimized Curcumin on lameness and joint pain in horses with OA. A gastroscopy observation was also performed to observe the supplement’s effects on stomach health.

Consuming pomegranate juice daily during pregnancy may protect brain development and brain connectivity in babies diagnosed with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR).
The exploratory study, supported by the National Institute of Health Grants and The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital has already lead to a second, larger clinical trial at the Brigham to validate these findings. The protective effects of polyphenols against neurodegenerative diseases have been explored in various scientific studies but to date, no clinical studies have evaluated the potential effects of giving pregnant women pomegranate juice to support the brains of at-risk newborns.
