Benicaros® is a patented "Precision Prebiotic" fibre ingredient upcycled from carrot pomace. Backed by research, it helps improve innate immune cells to respond more quickly, effectively, and robustly, while consistently promoting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria in every type of gut microbiome.
A new study1 highlights the microbiome-modulating effects of Benicaros®, particularly its impact on production of various metabolites. An ex vivo study using the gut microbiota of 24 human adults showed that Benicaros® supports gut microbiome modulation and promotes beneficial metabolites. Findings revealed an increase in indole-3-propionic acid (IPA), a key health-promoting compound, with Bifidobacterium longum identified as a crucial intermediary in its production.
Beyond short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), Benicaros® was shown to modulate other health-related microbial metabolites while potentially reducing harmful ones. Notably, these effects were consistent across all donor samples, highlighting its potential for supporting microbial balance and overall gut health.
IPA has been shown to provide protection against diseases affecting the gut and other organs via activation of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR)-mediated signalling and induction of anti-inflammatory interleukin production via strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. IPA has also been linked to therapeutic potential for cardiovascular and metabolic health, as well as neuroprotection.
With its excellent solubility and minimal impact on taste, odour, or texture, Benicaros® offers versatile formulation possibilities, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of dietary supplements, functional foods, and beverages.
