As demand for marine lipids and innovation continues to grow, the industry is placing greater emphasis on resources that offer long-term stability. In a market shaped by challenging environmental conditions and rising demand, exploring innovative lipid solutions that complement omega-3 supplementation can create new opportunities for product development.
Zooca® Calanus® Oil represents an innovative lipid solution, which contains a full spectrum fatty acid profile, Marine Policosanols and Astaxanthin, bound in a natural form called wax esters. Naturally derived from Calanus finmarchicus, an Arctic zooplankton species positioned low in the marine food chain, Zooca® Calanus® Oil is sourced from one of the ocean's most renewable marine resources and supported by natural annual production cycles and carefully managed harvesting practices.
Around 290 million tonnes of Calanus finmarchicus are produced annually in the Norwegian Sea, yet only approximately 0.0005% is sustainably harvested each year to produce Zooca® Calanus® Oil. The extremely low harvesting level highlights the abundance and renewability of this marine resource.
Backed by an extensive body of clinical research, Zooca® Calanus® Oil has demonstrated positive effects on metabolic health and healthy ageing. Studies have shown significant improvements in body composition, including reductions in visceral fat, while also highlighting benefits for heart health.1-4 Clinical findings (including a new study in 2025) suggest that it may support healthy glucose metabolism, insulin sensitivity and reduced metabolic stress.5-6
Alongside the ingredient, we also offer Zooca® Calanus® Softgels within our finished products portfolio. Available as Zooca® D3 Softgels 500 mg and Zooca® D3 Softgels 525 mg + 5 µg Vitamin D3, these ready-to-market solutions can help simplify product launches, reduce development risks, and accelerate time-to-market.
