Zooca® Calanus® Oil, a Novel Food approved, rich oil from Calanus, offers high-quality nutrients beyond Omega-3. It features a full fatty acid profile, along with Marine Policosanols and Astaxanthin, naturally bound in wax esters. This unique composition is supported by research that highlights its benefits for metabolic health and healthy aging.
Sourced from the Norwegian Sea, Calanus finmarchicus is a naturally renewing marine resource. Zooca® Calanus® Oil is produced from a small proportion of the annual population, with only 0.0005% of the estimated 290 million tons harvested each year.
Calanus finmarchicus is a tiny crustacean, just 3-5 mm in length, existing in vast numbers. Positioned near the bottom of the food chain, it feeds on phytoplankton, obtaining energy from photosynthesis and supporting life further up the food chain.
Zooca® applies documented harvesting and operational standards throughout its activities, from harvesting to extraction. The company implements a Sustainable Harvesting Policy and works to reduce by-catch through technology development and capacity building. These initiatives support traceability and responsible resource management across the supply chain.
Using off-season fishing vessels, typically employed during the summer fishing season, avoids the need for specialised harvesting equipment. The patented towing system is designed to reduce environmental impact during harvesting. In addition, the production process utilizes 100% of the Calanus raw material, supporting efficient resource use within a fully integrated production system.
