WokVel™: Highlights from Verdure's Sustainability Initiatives

Commitment to responsible practices is every step of Verdure Sciences®’ supply chain. A standout example is the recent initiative surrounding WokVel™ Boswellia.

In 2023, Verdure Sciences® launched a Boswellia serrata reforestation project, supported by a three-year maintenance and monitoring partnership with the Forest Department. Focused on restoring native forests and supporting local communities, the initiative has already achieved a 50% tree survival rate.

Encouragingly, the protected site is now showing early signs of natural ecosystem regeneration, marking a promising step toward long-term environmental impact.

Boswellia serrata, or salai, yields the valuable salai-guggul resin, a vital source of income for the Indigenous Sahariya tribe. This initiative not only contributes to the conservation of native species but also enhances the economic stability and well-being of local communities through sustainable harvesting practices.

Over the years, Verdure Sciences® has expanded its procurement, sourcing and environmental initiatives, obtained third-party certifications and published annual progress reports. At its headquarters, the company has implemented programmes including tree planting, pollinator habitat projects and on-site gardens for employees. These activities are aligned by the company with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The company has also installed solar panels at its manufacturing facility, resulting in a reported 20% reduction in facility energy consumption. In addition, Verdure has introduced alternative packaging solutions and direct-from-India shipping routes intended to reduce transportation-related emissions. Verdure's Regenerative Water Body Project and agricultural sourcing programmes focus on water management, soil stewardship and grower engagement activities
