Verdure Sciences®, the makers of Longvida® the Cognitive Curcumin of Choice® have recently addressed beauty from within with some innovative plant-based solutions: Pomella®, Amla and Natural Zinc. Research on Pomella® has shown potential to reduce wrinkle severity and improve the skin barrier function1 by working from inside and targeting skin microbiome, whilst Amla is a powerful antioxidant with research showing benefits on skin elasticity. Zinc is known to contribute to maintaining healthy skin, as indicated by the EFSA Health Claim and by partnering with Verdure Sciences® we have recently developed a plant-based Zinc option from Guava.
Pomella® pomegranate extract is standardised to bioavailable punicalagins and natural polyphenols, with recently published research demonstrating how it can support skin health.
In this 4-week study (2022), supplementation with 250mg/day of Pomella® showed significant reductions in wrinkle severity, alongside a decreasing trend in the forehead sebum excretion rate1. Pomella® enhanced the facial skin microbiome, increasing Bacillus genus and Staphylococcus epidermidis levels. In the gut microbiome, higher Eggerthellaceae levels correlated with reduced transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and wrinkle severity in the Pomella® group, indicating improved skin barrier function and wrinkle appearance1.
Amla is a high-quality and natural signature ingredient from Verdure Sciences®, standardised to 45% tannins, 10% gallic acid and 1% vitamin C, obtained from the fruit. Research has shown that Amla has the ability to improve skin elasticity, thickness, structure and overall health, thanks to its antioxidant properties – which come from Hydrolysable tannins (emblicanin A and B), the major bioactive component responsible for the antioxidant benefits found in Amla2-5.
PlantNutra® Natural Zinc is derived from Guava and standardised to 2.5% natural zinc while also rich in tannins and polyphenols. Research has indicated that the antioxidants in Guava leaves could help protect the skin from aging and enhance skin tone and texture by neutralising free radicals that damage the skin over time6. Not only this, put Zinc is also backed by EFSA Health Claims, contributing to the maintenance of normal hair, skin and nails.
