NOBLESVILLE, IN, November 5, 2013 – Verdure Sciences announces patents granted from the European Patent Office for applications covering Longvida® Optimized Curcumin brands. EP 1993365 was designated in eight European countries including Austria, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Poland, Spain and Switzerland.

Longvida® is made using patented Solid-Lipid Particle (SLP) Technology, which addresses the major requirements for bioavailability of curcumin in its free, non-metabolized form.

"This new patent marks a milestone for the Longvida® brand," said Sonya Cropper, V.P. Marketing for Verdure Sciences. "The Longvida® brand continues to set industry standards for curcumin research, which we believe will support its success in Europe and worldwide."

Longvida was developed based on research by UCLA neuroscientists, funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Veteran's Administration. The optimized curcumin extract was recently found to improve cognitive function in healthy older adults, in a clinical study just completed.

"The patent covers Longvida's key innovation: the ability to provide actual free curcumin in the bloodstream," said Blake Ebersole, Technical Director for Verdure Sciences. "Thus far, more than a dozen scientific studies have proven this technology can fulfill the promise of curcumin for the brain and body."
