Pomella® Pomegranate Extract for Skin Health, Gut Health and more
Pomella® pomegranate extract is a patented, clean-label, plant-based ingredient, standardised to bioavailable punicalagins and natural polyphenols. Clinically researched for multiple health applications including antioxidant, cardiovascular, gut health, skin beauty and skin microbiome, which are all benefincial for women's health.
A study was conducted on healthy adults (aged 25-55 years old) over a 4 week period, supplementing with 250mg of Pomella® daily. Results showed a significant improvement in multiple markers associated with visible wrinkles and moisture, impact to specific skin health bacteria strains and improvement in skin elasticity. There was also strong evidence supporting the skin-gut axis.
Further research examined shifts in gut microbiota and in blood short chain fatty acid (SCFA) levels. Results concluded that short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) shifted in the Pomella® group with a 38% increase (versus 1.8% decrease with placebo) in acetates and 162% increase (versus 0.1% increase with placebo) in propionates. This reinforces the idea that Pomella® pomegranate extract may support a healthier gut and improve gut-body communication.
A published study showed that Pomella® exhibited the highest antioxidant activity when compared to 26 other antioxidant products across several assays. Moreover, Pomella® Supplements with a high content of punicalagins showed high antioxidant activity, whereas those high in ellagic acid showed the lowest. Punicalagins are the primary natural antioxidants found in pomegranate fruit. They are water-soluble, highly bioavailable, and supported by safety data, with an absorption rate of up to 95%.
